GENRE

IDM, vogue, tribal, Computer Dance Music, hyperpop

EmptyZip brings together select pieces from algorithmic tracks and Furbot: my live cinema coding series with programming, created from the first generation of consumer mechatronic toys: Furbies, Tamagotchis, and their Chinese and Latin American pirate counterparts, all presented in album format.

“A mechatronic companion that breathed, responded, and seemed to desire things; it mutated along the way, like everything that travels through informal networks."

While Furbot manifests as a concert and installation, EmptyZip is its listening experience: an album rooted in experimental electronic music (IDM) conceived to move between deep listening and the dance floor, with rhythms that mutate across genres like pirate toys mutated across borders: tribal patterns that merge with hyperpop, deconstruction, noise, and sampling.

The kawaii that runs through it is a political surface, not a decoration: kidulting as a way of staying in softness, excess, and hyper-cute mechatronic affect, refusing the scripts of adulthood written for a generation of Latin American women who grew up promised a simulated companion and got a pirated copy instead.

VIDEOS RELEASING
WITH EMPTYZIP

All videos _ Gno At Mine, Inner Surface, and Performat, are built entirely from sintography: real photographs shot across Mexico City, Edomex, and Asia, alongside images of bootleg toys sourced from informal markets, animated and mutated through AI. Each video is self-directed by CNDSD.

BIO

CNDSD | Malitzin Cortés, a musician, live coder, and new media artist based in Mexico City. Her soundscapes range from drone and noise to breakcore and algorithmic voice, dense and hypnotic, constructed in real time from code, with no possibility of repetition.

An architect by training and a self-taught technologist, her practice blends granular synthesis, virtual reality, CGI, and artificial intelligence in performances that straddle the line between concert, installation, and research. Her works stem from both speculative and real-world questions: ecological collapse, informal housing, invisible territories, and interspecies communication.

She has presented her work at Ars Electronica, ZKM Karlsruhe, MUTEK, Sónar+D Istanbul, Transmediale, and ISEA Seoul. She is the winner of the Lumen Gold Award in Art and Technology and has been published by MIT Press and Cambridge University Press.
